Windows Vista and 7 users will be able to find the Control Panel as an option after clicking Start. For Windows 10, right-click the Start button in the lower left corner of your desktop and select Control Panel from the context menu. Make sure the View by option in the upper right corner is set to Category. Scroll down until you find QuickTime and click it.
The only vulnerability after that is if someone downloads an infected QT file, and opens it with their installed QT player. But as others are noting: your security software should scan the downloads for infection. FWIW, the MajorGeeks freeware site is carrying an offer for the latest update of a lower tier browser called Otter that was initially released in Says it's based on Opera I use Adobe Photoshop CS3. I know it's old, but it does what I need it to do, or at least it did until I uninstalled Quicktime.
I tried opening a gif file the other day in order to resize it, and got the message that I need Quicktime in order to do that. Apparently more recent versions of Photoshop after CS5, I think aren't reliant on Quicktime to edit gifs. So I need to either reinstall Quicktime, or get a newer version of Photoshop. Very annoying. Find the icon for the uninstallation of software; click it. Scroll through the list of installed software, which is in alphabetical order. Scroll until you find QuickTime. At the top of the menu, you will see links for various functions.
You will receive a pop-up notice letting you know the program has been uninstalled. Check the list of software in Control Panel to make sure QuickTime is no longer there.
Close Control Panel and go to the Recycle Bin on your desktop. Two new QuickTime vulnerabilities have been found that open up users to remote attacks, and Apple's apparent recommendation is that Windows just uninstall QuickTime. In a blog post yesterday April Tokyo-based security firm Trend Micro disclosed two QuickTime for Windows flaws that could let a malicious website or email attachment hijack a PC.
